State Library Cataloging Pilot Project Launches

If you've ever been stumped by a cataloging question, wondered how to choose a correct subject heading,  or been puzzled by authority records and MARC fields, the New Mexico State Library has answers for you!    The State Library is rolling out the Cataloging Consultation and Assistance Pilot Project (CCAPP) to fill an important need in the public library community and continue to take an active role in library education in New Mexico. 


HOW TO GET CATALOGING ASSISTANCE
The State Library’s Development Bureau in partnership with the Technical Service Bureau is offering this pilot project.  Here’s how it works:

BENEFITS OF CATALOGING CONSULTATION AND ASSISTANCE PILOT PROJECT
• Libraries will be assured that all questions will be answered regardless of how trivial the individual may perceive it. 
• Public libraries will have ready access to a professional cataloger if you need assistance, regardless of the level of complexity.
• Public library staff members who perform cataloging will gain understanding and facility with creating cataloging records for their collection
• Public library staff members will develop increased confidence in cataloging materials for their collections.
The State Library wants to continue to provide you with assistance that will be useful for you and your library community, especially during this time of short staffing and practically non-existent budgets.
