News for Federal Depository Librarians in New Mexico
IMLS Government Information in the 21st Century Grant
New Mexico State Federal Depository Libraries are working in collaboration with Federal Depository libraries in Arizona, Colorado, Utah and Wyoming to implement the Laura Bush Government Information in the 21st Century Grant. This three year project which involves the development of a comprehensive set of training materials to be used in a statewide training initiative. The objective is to provide public librarians with an expanded toolbox to use when assisting New Mexico’s citizens in their respective libraries. Federal Depository Librarians from the five states met in Boulder, Colorado in early June, 2007 to review their respective work on phase one of the project, which was the development of the first set of training modules. All but two of New Mexico’s document librarians participated in the conference, and the overall feeling of energy and collaborative spirit was impressive. A second set of modules were in the summer of 2007, and training commenced in each respective state in the Fall of 2007 and continued through the summer of 2008 to present.
Librarians from the New Mexico State Library, New Mexico Supreme Court Law Library, Farmington Public, NMSU, UNM and New Mexico Junior College gave training sessions for public librarians in 8 communities throughout the State.
The 2006 Annual Meeting of New Mexico Federal Depository Librarians was hosted by New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology on November 9, 2006 in the Skeen Library. IMLS grant developments were a topic of discussion. Linda Ware and Alice Robledo from the New Mexico Supreme Court Law Library presented a training session on using legal materials.
