The Southwest Collection is a rich and extensive resource for information on New Mexico state history, geography, culture, ethnology, government, and economics. The Southwest Collection is complemented by the State and Federal Documents collections of the New Mexico State Library and the New Mexico State Archives, all located within a single facility. Frequent research topics in the Southwest Collection include: the history of New Mexico places and families, railroad history, mines and mining, New Mexican writers, land grants, Santa Fe neighborhoods and buildings, Indian pueblos and reservations, farming and ranching, and Western trails.

Current Exhibitions:
"Santa Fe: Cuarto Centenario" (books, videos, and photos), curated by Virginia Lopez (through August, 2010)
The city of Santa Fe officially turns 400 in the year 2010. Although there is some disagreement about the actual date of Santa Fe's founding, the city kicked off its Cuarto Centenario events in September, 2009, during Las Fiestas de Santa Fe. Come see the Southwest Room's exhibit of books and other items about Santa Fe, the "City Different"!
"Wild at Heart: Ernest Thompson Seton" (books and illustrations), curated by Jennifer Mosby, student intern, Archives & Historical Services Division (through April, 2011)
Southwest Collection and State Records Center and Archives staff recently collaborated on an exhibit of books and illustrations by Ernest Thompson Seton. Jennifer Mosby, a student intern in art history visiting from Yale University, curated the exhibit.
Ernest Thompson Seton was born in England in 1860, but eventually settled in the United States and finally, Santa Fe, until his death in 1946. He became a renowned writer and illustrator of the natural world, co-founded the Boy Scouts of America, and fostered the environmental movement through his interest in wildlife conservation.
The exhibit, housed in the first glass case on the left in the entrance to the Southwest Room, was timed to coincide with an exhibit and series of workshops and lectures on Seton at the New Mexico History Museum, which continues through May 8, 2011.
The Southwest Collection includes most New Mexico newspapers. See below for a list of current subscriptions (in alphabetical order by city of publication)
