Tribal Libraries Program Overview

The New Mexico State Library's Tribal Libraries Program (TLP) mission is to promote and support information access in tribal communities with emphasis on current technology and tribal library development.

TLP  is unique in the nation with specialized library development services to tribal communities on a statewide basis with two full time library consultants and a resource center located in Crownpoint, NM. The main administrative office is located in Santa Fe with a branch in Crownpoint serving the Northwestern New Mexico Navajo area.

The TLP coordinator provides consulting services for tribal librarians on a wide range of topics including technology, policies and planning, and library best practices as well as training for tribal library staff and community members. Workshop topics are based on local need.

The Crownpoint Resource Center provides reference services to communities in the New Mexico portion of the Navajo Nation as well as computer training focusing on Microsoft Office and Internet research for community members.
