Landscape Restoration & Stewardship Plan for the Valles Caldera

The Valles Caldera Trust has released the Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed Landscape Restoration and Stewardship Plan (Stewardship Plan).

The Stewardship Plan proposes a 10-year strategy  for the restoration and stewardship of the forest, grassland, shrubland, and riparian ecosystems of the Valles Caldera National Preserve.  Proposed activities include, forest thinning, wildland fire management, road closure, decommissioning, maintenance and repair; riparian restoration, erosion control, burned area rehabilitation, and noxious weed eradication and control.

A Notice of Availability will be published in the Federal Register by the Environmental Protection Agency on or near July 7, 2014.  Not less than 30-days following the publication of the notice, the Valles Caldera Trust will make decision to implement the proposed action, select and alternative action or take no action at this time.  This decision will be documented in a Record of Decision (ROD).  The ROD will be made available to the public.
