Greetings Depositories,

This will be my last memo to you. I have accepted the Federal Documents position at the University of Montana in Missoula. My last day will be July 22nd.

It has been a pleasure working with all of you. I know I will miss you all.

Until a new state document librarian is named (at this time it is unknown when it will be possible to fill the position) Laurie Canepa and Monica will be keeping things going. Highlights of this shipment include:

New Mexico State Government Directory: this document is handy for all those state agencies that do not include phone numbers on their website. For instance phone numbers for the different MVD offices.

Executive Budget Recommendation: Now in one slim volume instead of two.

We have finally been able to untangle some confusing documents from CYFD, Protective Services Division:

The fact book became a yearly publication with the 2008 issue. We received a limited number of paper copies of the 2008 issue (in this shipment), and saved the 2009 and 2010 issues in the NMSL Digital Collection.

In addition, the Protective Services Division has produced a separate document with similar information as the fact book, but on a quarterly basis. This quarterly document was initially titled: Protective Services County Profiles, beginning with the 4th Quarter, 2007; then changed the title of this document to Protective Services 360 degrees county profiles with the 1st Quarter, 2008 issue. The documents with this title are only available from the NMSL Digital Collection.

Here are the shipment highlights:

Sounds of the Road- An audio CD from the New Mexico History Museum, and DOT with interviews and music. Includes Chaco Canyon, El Camino Real, and the Old Spanish Trail.  Great for students and an extra copy of the 2008 edition!

State of New Mexico Roster:  See who was elected and where from Congress to County Clerks.

New Mexico State Engineer Interstate Stream Commission: Settlements, drought information, and groundwater.

New Mexico’s Progress in Collecting Lesbian, Gay and Transgender Health Data:

The first DOH publication of it’s kind.  Statistics on sexual orientation, race, educational attainment, income, risk factors and health.

RE: Duplicate Detection and Resolution in use by OCLC.

Most Depository libraries who are OCLC members are probably aware of OCLC’s Duplicate Detection and Resolution software. This is a program that OCLC uses to merge duplicate records in the Worldcat database. This has happened to a few of NMSL’s original records. What this means is that if you search by the OCLC number supplied on a Shiplist and find a record that is quite different from what you expected to see, there’s a good probability that this record was identified by the software as a duplicate and subsequently merged with another. There will be a 019 MARC field containing the old record number. The merged record should still be usable for download to your catalog but may require more editing.”

Greetings Depositories, Happy New Year!

This year we went through and moved libraries up the list to fill vacancies. Was lost Taos awhile ago and last year we also lost Carlsbad and Los Alamos. As a result some of you (with number after 14) will have new numbers. Check the Contacts List for your new number. If you see any errors in the contact information please let us know so we can correct the information.

This shipment includes a small insert that was supposed to be included in the Laws of New Mexico for 2007. Please update your copies by including the insert.

This shipment also includes some regular favorites such as the New Mexico 2011 Vacation Guide, some copies of New Mexico Geology and New Mexico Magazine.
For heavier reading there is the Legislative Finance Council Proposed Budget.

We have one controversial document, the new Blue Book. Yes it was printed, and no it doesn’t have much new information.
 

Memo to State Publication Program Libraries

Greetings depositories!

It was great to hear from those of you who were able to join us for the annual meeting this year- in person and online. One of the topics that were presented is how we are processing electronic materials. In this shiplist you will see the first item listed as Digital Collection which means that it is in electronic format only. If you read the shiplist you will also see some items listed as monographs that also have a Digital Collection Link. This is because we received paper copies and an electronic copy. Because we received it in paper it is still listed as a monograph.

Another oddity of this shipment is the Inspection of Public Records from the AGO. When we first received this item we were given 16 copies. Recently more were sent and those copies went to libraries 17-29.

We have been getting some nice publications from the Department of health and this shipment includes The State of Health in New Mexico 2009 which has great information and is attractively presented.

Kids to Hatcheries has more ideas and projects for students including Gyotaku- the Japanese art of fish printing.

The big flashy publication in this shipment is The Geology of Northern New Mexico’s Parks, Monuments and Public Lands. This book has tons of color pictures, is nicely bound and is an interesting read. It is one of the nicest state pubs we’ve had this year.
