Borrowing Information for Government Employees

Borrowing Information for Government Employees

Eligibility

The New Mexico State Library Interlibrary Loan Department (ILL) serves those currently employed with the state of New Mexico, or with the Federal Government. First time users need to register with us.

How to Borrow

You may visit us at the library and borrow any “circulating” materials from the general, state or federal documents, or Southwest collections. Or, you can search SALSA from your desk and call us for a delivery. The state delivery system usually delivers to the Santa Fe area within three days. Outlying areas can also be served through the state delivery system.

We also offer state employees InterLibrary Loan (ILL), in which we will borrow materials related to your job assignment from other libraries for you. The ILLiad InterLibrary Loan program allows you to place and track your ILL requests through the web. First time borrowers must register with ILLiad, but the system will remember your account information after that.

You will receive your book in an average of 10 working days. Some articles can be sent to your desk within 24 hours, others will average about 10 working days.

There are currently no limits on the number of journal articles you may request, other than those imposed by copyright guidelines. However, there is a limit of 5 books you may borrow at one time from ILL. When you return the first 5, we can request 5 more.

Cost

Although usually ILL material is free, sometimes rare, old, or technical material carries a charge.

We always clear any costs with you before requesting material. Either you take the invoice back to your agency and work out payment there, or sometimes it is easier if you write a personal check and seek reimbursement.

Renewals

Most lenders will renew books at least one time, but please log onto ILLiad to request a renewal 10 days before the due date. You will have a much easier time renewing, if the book is not overdue.

Need to call us? Call 476-9700 to speak to the ILL/Circulation Desk.

Researchers can use the New Mexico State Library online catalog to search State Library collections as well as the library collections of the 7 other New Mexico state agency SALSA libraries. Collections can be searched collectively or individually.

If you are unable to find a publication or report in the online catalogs  please: Ask a Librarian. Many publications in our collection are not included in the catalog and can only be located using print indexes. Librarians can also search library collections throughout the state and nation, allowing patrons to indentify titles for InterLibrary Loan.
